Yeup, that was written by a woman... Happy 216thBirthday Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel

Google celebrated the German Romantic music composer Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel with an illustration on the Google homepage. #Googledoodle

Turns out I'd heard her before but hadn't realized that the music I was listening to was composed by a woman.

You go, girl!

If you listen to the two videos I've embedded below from YouTube, you can see that her compositions are delicate and complex but juxtapose simple accompaniment with forceful and delicate waves of vocal work. The melodies are beautiful and evoke strong emotional tones in this listener!

Tell me what you think. Had you ever listened to her before? Did you know there were female composers? Did you hear this before and automatically assume like I did that it was a male? (Blame our internal sexism, it's built into our society.)

Enjoy folks, Happy Monday.

Quick Fact:

Did you know that Classical music, especially the music of German & Austrian Romantics, like Fanny, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Wagner, Brahms, and even the Russian Tchaikovsky, can help folks process math and numbers better when listened to in quiet workplaces and schoolrooms? Now you do.
